Beta tester guide

Set up Verge. Use it well. Help shape the launch.

This guide takes about 15 minutes to read. It assumes you've never used a biometric app before, walks you through every step from TestFlight install to your first trading session, and explains exactly how the feedback prize draw works.

Beta · 1 July → 31 July 2026
01

Hardware — primary + third-party

Verge needs an iPhone and ideally a wearable that streams heart rate + HRV. Apple Watch gives the best real-time experience, but third-party wearables work via HealthKit — and we actively want third-party testers to confirm the experience holds up across devices.

Primary — best experience

  • iPhone running iOS 17+

The app + dashboard live here

  • Apple Watch Series 8 or newer

    S9, S10, S11 all work — S11 has the best HRV sampling

Third-party wearables — testers welcome

These all stream data into Verge through Apple HealthKit. If your device syncs to iOS Health, it works with Verge. Test it. Tell us what's missing.

  • Garmin
    Fenix 7+ · Forerunner 965 · Epix 2 · Venu 3via HealthKit · native bridge on roadmap
  • Whoop
    Whoop 4.0 strapvia HealthKit
  • Oura
    Gen 3 + Gen 4 ringsvia HealthKit
  • Polar
Pacer · Vantage · Ignite seriesvia HealthKit
  • Fitbit
    Sense 2 · Charge 6 · Versa 4iOS via Health Sync · native roadmap
No wearable at all?

Verge has a manual journal mode — works for trade journaling alone, without the live biometric overlay. Still useful, and we'd love feedback on whether it stands on its own.

03

Installing the app via TestFlight

Verge ships through Apple's TestFlight programme during beta — same way every iOS app does. If you've never used TestFlight, here's the whole flow:

  1. 1
    Wait for the invite email.

On 1 July 2026, an email arrives from beta@calmhqstudio.com with your personal TestFlight invitation link. Subject line: 'Your Verge beta access is live'.

  2. 2
    Install TestFlight (one-off).

If you haven't already, install Apple's free TestFlight app from the App Store. Anyone with an iPhone running iOS 17+ can use it.

  3. 3
    Tap the invitation link.

Open the email on your iPhone and tap the link. TestFlight opens and shows the Verge listing.

  4. 4
    Tap 'Accept' then 'Install'.

Verge downloads to your phone, same as any App Store app. Looks identical once installed.

  5. 5
Open Verge from your home screen.

Continue to step 04 below for first-time setup.

A note on TestFlight builds: TestFlight versions expire 90 days after release. If beta runs longer than that, we'll send a fresh build via email — same TestFlight link, just updates inside the app.
04

First-time setup (5–10 minutes)

Verge's onboarding is six screens. Walk through them, grant the requested permissions, and you're done. Two things to know:

  1. 1Welcome screen → tap 'Get started'.
  2. 2Connect your Apple Watch (or other wearable via HealthKit). The app guides you through giving permission for heart rate, HRV, sleep, and workout data.
  3. 3Set your trading timezone — Verge uses it to bucket your contextual baselines correctly (your 'normal' at 09:30 NY open is different from 09:30 London).
  4. 4Pick the modes you want active — Trading is on by default; Recovery and Fitness can be toggled off if you don't want them. Most testers keep all three on.
  5. 5Optionally add your trading platform (TradingView / MetaTrader / etc.) so screenshots are auto-tagged. Not required.
  6. 6Confirm and you're in.
Important — the 7-day calibration period

Verge needs 7–14 days of your data to learn your personal baseline. Most apps compare you to a population average — that's the wrong reference. Verge compares you to yourself, at this specific time of day, in this specific state. During calibration, you'll see "Learning your baseline" instead of the live readings. That's working, not broken.

05

Daily use — the three modes

Verge has three modes and they all exist to serve one goal: better trades. Trading is the flagship. Recovery and Fitness are the off-hours work that determines on-hours quality.

Trading

The flagship. Live biometric capture during sessions, trade-by-trade tagging on the watch, full replay after the session.

  1. 01Open Verge before your session and tap 'Start session'.
  2. 02Trade as you normally would.
  3. 03After each trade, tap the watch face → 'Tag trade' → pick outcome (win / loss / scratched) and emotion tag (Planned / FOMO / Tilt / Disciplined).
  4. 04End the session. Verge shows a timeline of every trade alongside your live biometric state.

Recovery

Runs automatically overnight. Tracks sleep depth, HRV, parasympathetic balance, and morning readiness. In the morning, you get a single readiness score.

  1. 01Wear your watch to sleep.
  2. 02Open Verge in the morning — readiness score is the first thing you see.
  3. 03Use it to decide: trade today, paper-trade, or skip.
  4. 04No manual input needed.

Fitness

Workouts you do get logged automatically (or manually). Verge tracks how each workout shifts your autonomic baseline over 24–72 hours.

  1. 01Workouts auto-detect from the watch — no manual logging unless you want detail.
  2. 02After a workout, Verge marks the next 24–72 hours of trading with a 'post-workout autonomic shift' overlay.
  3. 03Use it to time hard sessions (or rest days) around your trading schedule.
  4. 04Not a fitness app — this exists because exercise moves the next trade.
06

How to send feedback

Three channels. Use whichever fits the feedback. Every channel goes to one person — the founder — and every message is read.

In-app
Settings → Send feedback

Best for most things. Up to 5,000 chars. Categorise as Bug / Idea / Polish / Question / Other.

Email
beta@calmhqstudio.com

Best for longer threads, screenshots, video, or anything sensitive.

Social
X / Reddit / TikTok

Best for public discussion. Tag the studio so we see it. Less private — pick accordingly.

What counts as "approved" feedback for the prize draw

  • Specific and actionable. "The HR doesn't update during sessions" beats "it's slow".
  • Not a duplicate. Check the public changelog first — known issues are listed there.
  • Bugs include reproduction steps. "Tap X → see Y → expect Z, got W". Saves us hours.
  • Ideas include the why. The problem you're trying to solve, not just the feature you want.
  • Screenshots / video help. Especially for visual / UX issues.

Reviewed manually by the founder. Quality over quantity — and the bar is set so anyone genuinely engaging with the app should clear it.

07

The reward draw

One raffle entry per approved feedback submission. No cap. More approved feedback = higher odds. Random draw at the end of beta — names out of a hat, weighted only by entries.

If you don't get an email by 1 September 2026

You haven't won. We don't run a second-chance draw, and we don't publish a winners list. If your inbox is empty on the morning of 2 September, that's the final word. Every beta tester keeps their Founder badge (if you were in the first 100), their feedback contributions, and free use of the app's free tier post-launch. The draw is a thank-you, not the only reason to be here.

Tax / legal: Prizes are personal gifts from a UK sole trader. Winners outside the UK may have local tax obligations on the declared prize value — that's the winner's responsibility, not CalmHQ Studio's. The studio will not report prize values to any tax authority unless legally required. Lifetime subscriptions remain valid for the operational lifetime of the Verge product. If Verge ever shuts down, lifetime subs end with it — no refunds are possible on prizes won (because no money changed hands).

08

Known issues + changelog

Every TestFlight build that ships gets logged publicly. Known issues stay on the list — openly — until they're closed. Before submitting a bug report, check the public changelog first to avoid duplicates.

Troubleshooting

  • 'Learning your baseline' never finishes

You need 7–14 days of consistent watch wear. If you've worn it daily and it's still calibrating after 14 days, email beta@calmhqstudio.com with your TestFlight email — we'll check your account.

  • Heart rate not showing during sessions

Three checks: (1) Watch is unlocked and Verge complication is enabled. (2) iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Verge has HR + HRV permissions. (3) Restart the watch. Still failing? Email us.

  • Trade tagging crashes the watch app

Known throttle issue at 200+ trades in a single session. For now: end the session before that count. Fix is in v0.1.3.

  • My Garmin / Whoop / Oura data isn't showing

Confirm the device app is connected to iOS Health: iOS Settings → Privacy → Health → [your device] → enable HR + HRV + sleep. Open Verge, pull to refresh. If still missing, the native bridge for your device is on the post-beta roadmap — email us with the device model and we'll prioritise.

  • I want to leave the beta

TestFlight → Verge → 'Stop testing'. Your feedback stays in the queue. Your raffle entries stay valid. Founder badge is permanent on your account.

FAQ

  • How long do I have to test?

Beta runs 1 July → 31 July 2026, then refinements through August, with App Store launch around 15 August (depending on Apple review timing).

  • Can I share my TestFlight invite?

No — TestFlight invites are personal and bound to your email. Friends can sign up at verge.calmhqstudio.com/beta and we'll send them their own invite.

  • Will my beta data carry over to the App Store version?

Yes. All sessions, baselines, history, and your Founder badge transfer automatically when v1.0 ships.

  • What if I find a serious bug?

Email beta@calmhqstudio.com with the subject 'Critical' — those get same-day response. In-app submissions are reviewed weekly; email is faster for urgent issues.

  • Is Verge financial advice?

No, and never will be. Verge observes your physiology and helps you notice patterns. It does not tell you when to enter, exit, or size a trade. Decisions are entirely yours. Not financial, medical, or psychological advice.

Ready?

Reserve your TestFlight invite.

First 100 spots get the permanent Founder badge. Every approved piece of feedback gets a raffle entry. Beta opens 1 July 2026.
